Apple Changes Crimea Map To Meet Russian Demands
ardmhacha writes: Apple has complied with Russian calls for to turn the annexed Crimean peninsula as a part of Russian territory on its apps. Russian forces annexed Crimea from Ukraine in March 2014, drawing world condemnation. The area, which has a Russian-speaking majority, is now proven as Russian territory on Apple Maps and its Weather app, when considered from Russia. But the apps don’t display it as a part of any nation when considered somewhere else. The State Duma, the Russian parliament’s decrease area, mentioned in a remark: “Crimea and Sevastopol now appear on Apple devices as Russian territory.” Russia treats the naval port town of Sevastopol as a separate area. The BBC examined a number of iPhones in Moscow and apparently the trade impacts units arrange to make use of the Russian version of Apple’s App Store. Apple were in talks with Russia for a number of months over what the State Duma described as “inaccuracy” in the way in which Crimea was once labelled. Further studying: Apple Has No Backbone.
